Clutterbuck in Oats
By J. J. BOYLE in Wellington The North Island jockey Gus Clutterbuck has been engaged to ride the Wai-mate-owned Sweeney Todd in the Winter Oats at Trentham today. Clutterbuck will also ride Gavade if that six-year-old runs in the second leg, the Onslow Handicap. Affaire d’Honneur has been scratched for the Onslow Handicap and this should strengthen Head Planet’s position as favourite.
[ The Takanini jockey David I Peake will ride Proud Belle, ione of the lightweights in the Onslow Handicap. I The field for the Eric Riddiford Steeples was down to six runners yesterday with the withdrawal of High Chief. George, a close second in the Wellington Steeplechase last week, has satisfied his owner-trainer, N. O. Charlton, with his progress in the meantime and appears to be capable of landing his third win from his last four starts.
