Escape from prison

An Australian man, Colin Newlands, who was to have been deported in less than three weeks apparently used a ladder to escape from Addington Prison yesterday morning. A police escort section which arrived about 5.30 a.m. to take remand prisoners to court saw the ladder leaning against a wall. A check by prison author-! ities revealed that one in-! mate, Newlands, also known) as “Radar,” was missing. | Newlands, aged 33, who had been serving time for! false pretence and the unlawful taking of vehicles,! was to have been deported on July 27. He is a European, about 166 cm (sft sin) tall, of thin build, with brown hair, and blue eyes.
