Clearly not yet spent as she showed when second behind Merman at weight-for-age at Avondale last Saturday. Up 2.5 kg but a real prospect still. J. Grylls 2 0143 SIR HERMES (11) 54.5. Unsuited by the weight-for-age conditions but ran . well again when third behind Merman and Judena last Saturday. Down 3kg from his weight on that occasion J On home track and has to be rated a chance. R. Elliott 3 4970 VAN DER HUM (4) 54.5. Disappointing when only tenth in A.R.C. Cornwall Handicap on June 7, in latest attempt. Forgiven that failure would be due attention here. At his best on very wet ground. 4 0700 KAURERE LAD (10) 53.5. Once good winter galloper but now rising 11 years old and finding it hard to regain worthwhile form. S. Autridge 5 0031 CULLIMORE (13) 52.5. Best known for his ability over shorter courses but good. generous finisher which might manage this distance just as well. Won narrowly last Saturday over 1600 m at Trentham and up 2.5 kg. P. Johnson 6 0010 WAIRERE GIRL (6) 52.5. Shows up occasionally but often well beaten between times. Followed win over 2000 m at Gisborne on May 17 with poor, last-start showing, over 2100 m at Tauranga on June 21. Might find home track here a help. R. Caddigan 7 0278 HYTEST (15) 52. Does not often win hut useful on his day. Latest second placing was over 1600 m at Ellerslie on Mav .31 behind Rajah Beebe. Meanwhile seventh and eighth over 1400 m at Fllerslie on June 7 and over

2.100 m at Avondale on June 2”. 8 5340 KAHAWAI (20) 52. Ended run of sound oerfo’ - - manees when well beaten, seventeenth, at last start, over 2300 m at Avondale on June 28. Previously fourth

over 2300 m at Te Awamutu on June 14 and third behind Dark Isa over 2200 m at Rotorua on May 24. G. Grylls 9 0064 SWIFT JUSTICE (21) 52. Capable enough at best. Unlucky to have had an enforced let-up from racing, alter promising fourth at weight-for-age over 1600 m at Ellerslie on May 16 and likely to be the better for

this one. 10 9100 ZAP (14) 52. Won three Starts back over 2(Wuin at Gisborne on May 14 but failed to show up meanwhile over 20110 m at Gisborne an May 27 and over 2300 m at Avondale on June 28.

Expected to find this company too tough. 11 4009 STIPULWIN (9) 51.5. Out of form but capable and always a possibility to show up. Outpaced lately though and well beaten in latest attempt at weight-for-age over 1600 m at Ellerslie on Mav 16.

P. Aiderman 12 5501 KAHU (8) 51. One Of the more promising rising four-year-olds and impressive winner in C2. over 1600 m at Avondale last Saturday. Down 4.5 kg for this higher grade and one of the best looking prospects. B. Compton 13 0602 SALTASH (1) 51. Distant second behind Kahu last Saturday and on that form should be held safe again by that horse. Handles heavy ground but latest form mainlv fairlv moderate. K. Reggett 14 0636 STEVIE WONDER (19) 51. Unsuited bv weight-for-aae conditions last Saturday, when sixth with 57.5 kg behind Merman at Avondale. B'-t'er placed here and very likely to make a good slmwinr- even from a rather difficult barrier position. D. Southworth 15 0056 EL DUFUS (7) 505. Having difficulty in fulfilling considerable promise of last soring. Last-start sixth was over 2300m’at Te Awamutu on June 14.

R. Taylor 16 9000 LE CALEB (22) 50.5. Stratford gelding holding little in the way of recent worthwhile form. D. Frttney 17 2516 STARDINA (23) 50.5. Useful in intermediate company but vet to trv class one: Won two starts back in CH over 1600 m at Ellerslie on May 31. Drop in weight

here entitles him to consideration. 18 7477 TAMARYN (5) 50.5. Lacks much speed but often runs on pretty well. Fairseventh last time, over 2300 m at Avondale on June 28 behind Barry Stuart. Latest fourth was over 1600 m York Handicap at Ellerslie on June 2. 19 7005 MANNADO (24) 50.5. Showed plenty of early promise but recent form patciiy. Last-start fifth was over 1000 m at Rotorua on May 31 behind Above The Clouds.

B. Fraser 20 7039 CAMPAIGNER (2) 50.5. This will be the fust race for six months or so. Hard to fancy much .on that account.

T. Autridge 21 7224 STYLISH SOVEREIGN (16) 50.5. Claims creditable last-start fourth over 160(hn at Wanganui on July 1 after second placlngs at South Waikato over 1900 m on May 31 and over 1900 m at Rotorua on May 24. 22 7500 TIKE DA (17) 50. Well beaten in last two starts at Ellerslie on Maj' 31 and Te Awamutu on June 14 after fifth over 2200 m at Ruakaka on May 23. Not on latest form. 23 0009 RED SCABAL (3) 50. Useful winter galloper at best which should soon start to show improvement. Chance of a run, however, seems faint. 24 0521 PALRAHP (1) 50. Racing well in intermediate middle-distances. DOUBLE 2.15 p.m.— BURWOOD HANDICAP §5000: 1400 m. 1 1431 BAYSHORE (11) 61. Good, consistent and well up to winning in this company, even with this big weight. Scored impressively last time at w.f.a. over 1400 m at Tauranga on June 21 after third over 16p0m at Ellerslie on May 31 with 53.5 kg. R. Caddigan 2 8817 HEIDELBERG (6) 59.5. Very capable but hard to follow. Moderate effort 7 last time, behind Baj’shore at Tauranga. Race previously was at w.f.a. over 1600 m. at Avondale on April 30 which

he won well. Always likely. L. O'Sullivan 3 0321 HOTSAND (17) 57. Thoroughly consistent and easy last-start winner over 1320 m at Wanganui on June 2 with 56kg Has to overcome disadvantage of wide draw but nevertheless top prospect. J. Hayes 4 PIERRE'S ORDER (141 55. Well performed middle distance runner down to resume racing after a fair spell. Could be expected to need this one and more ground. P. Johnson 5 1706 PRIOR'S LUCK (12) 55. Ended run of form three starts hack when well beaten over 1400 m at Te Awamutu on June 14 after winning over 1200 m at Rotorua on May 21. Finished sixth of 19 at last attempt over 1200 m at Avondale on June 23 with better effort.

C. Nolan 6 0903 RUBICON (3) 55. Well performed middle distance runner last spring having a struggle to regain winning form. Did better though in latest attempt over 1400 m at T o Awamutu on June 14. Place chance at least. N. Tilev 7 1121 AFFAIRE D'HON NE UR (5) 54.5, Smart young horse on an impressive run of form. Won over 1400 m at Hastings on June 28 at last start after second placing over 1400 m at Te Awamutu on June 14. Previously successful in intermediate snrints at Rotorua and Ellerslie. K. Reggett 8 nil RUANUKU (2) 54. Summer staying "find’’ which will he resuming racing after a spell since earlj’ December. Interesting but could be expected to need the run and more distance. S. Autridge 9 4546 EVEN DOLLARS (101 52.5. Lacks much dash but usually battles home gamely. Made some ground last Saturday when sixth over 1200 m at Avondale. Always a place prospect at least. J. Grylls 10 KERRYMAN (21) 52.5. Failed last start over 1200 m at Ellerslie on May 31 after fourth over 1200 m at Rotorua on Mav 24, Has speed but hard to’ fancy much from so wide. 11 0075 ROSE OF CARLYLE (8) 52.5. Useful at best and managed encouraging fifth last time over 1400 m at Ruakaka on May 23. Has had enforced

spell so could perhaps be found in need of this one. 12 0607 SHARMON (13) 52. Looked promising early in career but has failed to measure up this season. Now rising six years and prospects of much improvement are dimming.

P. Timms 13 0335 EL MAR (15) 52. Racing pretty well and usually runs on generously. Made some ground last start when fifth over 1400 m at Te Awamutu on June 14. Previous thirds were over 1400 m at Ellerslie on May 3 and over 1200 m at Avondale on April 26. B. Compton 14 4003 PENNYSHIMA (19) 52. Came back from a fair spell for a third placing last Saturday over 1200 m at Avondale. Developed good winter form a season or two back. Has to overcome difficult barrier draw though. R. Manning 15 6000 WILD FIRE (22) 52. Hard to allow a chance on latest form.

D. Stockwell 16 7400 BEACH SPI (1) 51.5. Latest fourth placing was ■ over 1200 m at Ellerslie on April 7 behind Word of Honour. This will be first race since tenth over 1400 m at Rotorua on May 24. 17 0413 FENCOURT LAD (16) 51,5. More consistent latelj’ and followed C2, 1600 m win at Te Awamutu on June 14 with third at last start in C2 over 1600 m at Avondale on Saturday, though well beaten behind Kahu.

G. Forbes 18 5503 DEVANEY (4) 513. Latest form not near her best and now rising eight years. 19 9730 MARCEAU (9) 51.5. Has managed one or two minor placlngs this season but up against it in this comnanv. 20 07 PHILANZAK (20) ?1. Has been trying intermediate companj- without much result Has difficult barrier draw and would be luckj’ to .get a start, 21 5166 AZEVARNO (18) 51. Won three starts back in C 5 over 1400 m at Eljerslie on Mav 31. This is much harder and chance of a start is slight. 22 7?39 PROUD BELLE (7) 51. Too badly beaten in latest attempts to be considered a
