General forecast: A south-westerly airstream is expected to persist over New Zealand, with further wintry showers in the south of the South Island and scattered showers spreading into other parts of the country at times. The cold front is expected ot spread northwards over the country during the day, but to become weak. Canterbury: West or southwest winds, fresh at times with some snow showers in the alps. Cold. Buller: Cloudy and cold with occasional showers; moderate west to south-west . winds.
Westland: Fine at first in the south. Otherwise mainly cloudy with occasional showers. Cold, with moderate south-westerlies. 1 Marlborough: Moderate ; westerlies predominating with cooler south-west- * erlies on the Kaikoura coast. Fine, apart from isolated showers. Nelson: Moderate southwesterlies predominating. Showery periods in the western ranges with snow. . Mainly fine elsewhere.
