Holding price for dead lambs
The new lambing season is not far away again. Slink Skins (Canterbury), Ltd, which picks up dead lambs in the area between Waiau and the Rangitata River, will be resuming this seasonal operation at the end of this month an:l then continuing through until early in October. The manager, Mr J. S. Chisholm, says that they are maintaining the rate of payment at $1 per sound carcase — this was
the rate last season. Although there had been a downturn recently in the market for sheep skins and hides for garment manufacture, he said they were confident with their world-wide and increasing new markets showing keen interest they could continue to be viable. Last season the company picked up more tlian 500,000 lambs and the whole slink skin group collected 2.3 M throughout the country. -
