N.Z. ref. for S.A.

PA Wellington The chairman of the New Zealand Rugby Union, Mr Ces Blazey, said yesterday that the union had received an invitation to send a referee to control the British Lions’ match against the South African Barbarians at Durban next month. Mr Blazey said that the invitation had been sent to the Referees’ Association, which

would nominate a referee for the match, which will be played on July 2. An English rugby writer had earlier said that the South African Rugby Board had asked the New Zealand union to nominate its top referee. Frenchmen are refereeing the four tests in the series, but all other matches have been controlled by South Africans.
