‘The Second Coming’
Sir, — Letters regarding the “Second Coming” of Christ sadden .me by their pathetic evidence of the gullibility of Christians who quote their Redeemer as if the words attributed to Him could be verified. Nothing is further from factual actuality as their Bible has been translated and rewritten so many times, with the present authorised version being nothing more than the result of political censorship. It is amazing that out cf 33 o>- so years attributed to Jesus only some four of them are recorded. One would have expected that, being known as the Son of God from birth, he would have been accorded V.I.P. attention throughout his entire life. As for the signs of His Second Coming being seen in the political and moral issues of today, this is ludicrous in the extreme as today’s world is but a sad reflection on the continuous negative preoccupation of man as from the beginning of recorded history. — Yours, etc., ARTHUR MAY; June 9,. 1980.. Sir, — Raj r Thomas (June 4), claims that “the suggested- ‘Second Coming’ has arisen through misunderstanding”. I. suggest this misunderstanding has arisen through the spreading of the theory that' Jesus will co-. rule earth for 1000 years when He comes. Nowhere in the Bible does it say the millenium takes place on Earth; The Greek word translated “1000 .years” can also mean “a long time.” In the millenium, Christ rules the Earth with his people. This has been the case ever since Christ died and rose from the dead, giving His power and authority, to. all who would accept Him as Lord and Saviour. Unfortunately, on the whole, the Church today has not claimed this
power, and so appears not to reign. This rule is gained through prayer dictating world events and situations. The Bible says that Jesus will come again to judge the Earth and to redeem His people, and nothing else. — Yours, etc., GREG LORD. June 6, 1980. [This correspondence is now closed — Editor]
