Consultants to study L.P.G.

PA Wellington The concerns of environmentalists and conservationists and the bulk distribution and storage of liquefied petroleum gas in New Zealand will be referred to the international consultancy engaged for a safety and operability study- of the proposed system, the dhairman of the . Liqui-Gas group, Mr R. J. Hogg has said. Liqui-Gas is the company that will handle bulk distribution and storage of L.P.G, nationwide, and it has retained one of the world’s leading consultancies, Arthur D. Little, Inc., of Cambridge, Massachusetts, to study all aspects of safety and operation of the new project.

Mr Hogg said the concerns of environmentalists and conservationists about the establishment of L.P.G. facilities were well documented and would be given to the consultants for their consideration in producing their report and recommendations. The consultants would visit each centre in which Liqui-Gas intended setting up depots and would go deeply into all alternatives; assessing them for both safety and efficiency.

“They will want details of population in each area, traffic flows, geographical information about where pipelines are to be laid in the Taranaki and Lyttelton areas, and, of course, information about earthquakes,” Mr Hogg said.
