Ski-ing at Mt Hutt
Good snow conditions have been reported for the opening of the ski-ing season at Mount Hutt today. More than 30cm of packed powder snow' should provide an exciting start to the new season, which is opening two weeks later than last year’s, according to the chairman of the Mount Hutt Ski and Alpine Tourist Company, Mr P. Yeoman. A good fall of snow had come on Friday evening after only light falls earlier last week, he said. Bookings from Australian skiers were well up on last year’s. The company’s policy of covering the flight cancellation costs of Australian skiers who were unable to ski because of a lack of snow had been a welcome move.
Between. 200 and 300 1 skiers were expected to bej on the mountain this morn-1 ing, when four ski lifts! would be in use. A further two lifts would come into use tomorrow. ’ 1
