Beef ban lifted
A ban on beef exports from Waikato’s Horotiu freezing works to the United States has been lifted after an inspection by Ministry of Agriculture officials. Horotiu was taken off the special register allowing exports to the United States after some contamination of beef during the killing process. The works manager (Mr B. Antram) said the ban cost the company 5000 export carcases which were supposed to have gone to the United States market. He said Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries and company officials were still monitoring the situation.
