Huge victory
Three hat-tricks and one of the biggest wins in the history of the competition highlighted the Rothmans Soccer League matches played yesterday. Gisborne City moved into second place with a huge 8-1 win over Newmans Nelson United at Nelson. The win is Gisborne’s biggest in the league, and equals Nelson’s heaviest defeat, suffered against Eastern Suburbs two years ago. Colin Walker and Jim Doherty each scored three times for Gisborne, while Alf Stamp also scored three for the struggling Blockhouse Bay side,, which pulled off the surprise result of the round, beating . Manurewa, 4-1.
The best fightback of the round came from Rangers, which trailed Stop Out, 2-0, at half-time
