" Reds under blackboard”

Sir, — In reading the article headed “Reds under blackboard” (“The Press,” June 5) I was left wondering why members of Parliament like Mr N. P. H. Jones can say such McCarthy type clap trap and have it reported. Most of what he said was grossly distorted,, even untrue but, his statement that children in, schools were being’ encouraged, “in fact they are being instructed, to question recognised values and oppose ignised standards of behaviour” left me asking these questions. What on earth is .wrong with helping children understand kindness, fairness, sharing, tolerance and the ability to listen to someone else’s point of \iew. Should teachers explain ti their classes that when Mr Muldoon’s arrogance, rudeness and intolerance are displayed on their television sets as often as they are, that this is “stan-’ dard behaviour” and therefore, is not to be questioned. — Yours, etc., PHILIP PALFREY. June 5, 1980.
