May sunny and dry
May was an unusually sunny and dry month, according to the monthly summary issued by the Christchurch Meteorological Office. -
The 163 hours of sunshine were only one hour below the h jhest recorded and 38 hours above the average. The 14mm of rainfall recorded in Christchurch was the lowest May rainfall since 1960, when the total was 12mm. The May average is 75mm. The mean temperature was 1 deg. Above normal at 9.7, the highest maximum recorded being 25.2 on May 14. The highest wind gust was 30 knots, from the south-west, on May 19.
