Council merger
Sir, —• Mrs Oram (June 2) expresses the concern, of many Kaiapqi people at not being | consulted regarding the council’s proposals for .' amalgamation' with the adjoining county. The public have the Tight to know what is going on. Far too often .the present council goes into committee to discuss, in secret, matters of public concern. The Mayor, Mr B. O. Williams, complained at the last municipal election ("The Press,”' May 27): “The council had had the bogy over our heads of amalgamation, regional planning and the proposed United Council;” It seems he has let down the people who; supported the view that Kaiapoi keep its borough ■ status. — Yours, etc ■-.■■■ */* C. W. D. HODGSON. June 5, 1980.
