Motor-cycle parking

Sir, — Here we are with a petrol shortage. Why is the City Council discouraging motor-cyclists? If you try to park in town for more than. a half hour you get a ticket or you have to keep moving your motor-cycle from halfhour space t 0 half-hour -space. There is no point in telling us to park further out of town in-a long-term zone; they are filled for the day by 8.30 a.m. Why cannot we have some two-hour zones in the centre city? — Yours, €tC SUSAN ARTHUR. JUDITH ARTHUR, SHELLEY SWEET, natasha McMillan. April 27, 1980. [Mr P. G. Scoular, Deputy General Manager and City Engineer, replies: “The council has no wish to discourage the use of motor-cycles in the city. Regular reviews of existing facilities for the ■ parking of. machines are made. Time limits have been placed on central city motorcycle stands to ensure a ‘turnover’ of parked vehicles and provide a .service for motor-cyclists who use their machines for shopping business reasons. Commuter parking is catered-for in unrestricted parking areas set aside for motor-cycles and these are generally located on the fringe of the central busjpess . area within the

parking meter zones. The correspondents’ suggestion that the existing 30 minute limit on some stands be altered will be investigated. A plan showing the location of all classes of city parking may be produced s'hortly.”]
