Walk-out at plant
Eighty battery workers employed at Amalgamated Batteries, Ltd, in Christchurch "’alked off the job about midday yesterday after another worker was suspended because of the level of lead in his blood. The workers will return to work on Monday. The Health Denartment has investigated lead levels at the factory’ and is analysing the results. Workers found with a high lead level are suspended as a precautionary measure and receive .80 per cent of their normal pay through the accident compensation scheme.
