No hurry to meet Govt

PA Wellington The Federation of Labour’s annual conference ended yesterday with the president (Mr W. J. Knox) in no mood to meet the Government in a hurry.,/ On Thursday the executive decided it would call on the Government’“at the earliest possible time” to complain about the economic policies it is pursuing. This decision came after an unsuccessful attempt by the secretary of the Electrical Workers’ Union (Mr A. J. Neary) to have the executive ask the Government. to set up a special tribunal for an application for a cost of living adjustment. But Mr Knox said yesterday that the executive had made no approach to the Government so far. The executive had no date in mind other than to ask for a meeting before he leaves bn an overseas tour on May 19. The conference closed on a buoyant note, Mr Knox thanking the 500 delegates for their loyalty in his first year of office.

Mr Knox told the conference in his closing speech that the F.O.L. was prepared to meet the Government at any time. He warned the: Government that the movement was stronger ndw than it had been for many years.
