PA Wellington The President of Argentina, General Jorge Videla, will visit New Zealand next month. The Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon) said yesterday that the timing was still being worked out but it was likely to be early June, after President Videla’s visit to China.

The visit, which the Government had hoped to keep secret until the last 1 minute, came to light in . Auckland yesterday as the result of mysterious plans for aircraft movements. Argentina’s Ambassador in Wellington (Mr A. Aden) declined to confirm the visit. It is believed that President Videla will arrive in Auckland on June 9, on the

way back from a State visit to China. He is expected to spend some days in New Zealand and to visit Wellington.

He will travel with a 340-member party, including other senior members of the Argentina Government, and journalists.

Trade with the Argentine, a proposed federation of Southern Hemisphere countries, and a proposed air service over the Antarctic to New Zealand by the Argentine airline, Aerolineas Argentina, will feature in the Wellington discussions.

The 747 jumbo jet in which the presidential, party is flying will travel over the Antarctic on what is considered proving flights for later commercial services.
