Capable galloper, which given soft footing, could be a class above this field. G. Chitty 2 1458 SHELTER'S GOLD (11) 55.5. Fair race over 2200n>.

Ellerslie, last Saturday, in soft ground that did not suit. Other recent efforts have been very sound.

T. Williams 3 9056 MICKEY FLYNN (2) 54.5. Good races over 1600 m at Avondale. Capable old fellow and should run this distance out well.

R. Vance 4 7356 PICASSO (1) 54.5. Did not flatter in two starts at Riccarton. Given firm footing could improve. 5 0005 AWARD (3) 52.5. Better effort over 2100 m at Tauranga. Has run some slashing races in stronger company than this.

6 0030 EL DUFUS (9) 52. Last in Avondale Championship Stakes, following 3rd at Rotorua. Smart in soft footing as lie showed when winning G.N. Guineas. J. Hayes 7 3764 ALL ROCK (8) 51.5. Has string of useful efforts to his credit. Fourth was over 2200 m at Rotorua. Must have firm footing.

Resumed racing after nearly 12 months away with sprint at Ruakaka, March 23. Will be better for race but still hard to like. 11 041 JAZZ BAND (13) 51. Strong finish for 4th over 1600 m at Avondale, then won over 1600 m, at Ellerslie, last Saturday. In that form would be verv tough to beat. W. Robinson

Has been facing very well over shorter course. Good finish for Gth over 1600 m, at Avondale, Prefers firm ground. 14 8878 STAR ECHO (20) 51. Once well above average but then off scene fair while. Moderate Sth over 1600 m at Avondale in third start of new campaign. 15 0000 FRAXIBARD (14) 51. Well back in sprint at Ruakaka, March 28, in first outing since October. Others preferred.

Avondale after showing signs of returning to winning list. Very good at best so worth another chance.

R. Vance 2 7222 SALTASH (16) 57. Twice second A.R.C. Easter meeting and again 1400 m at Ellerslie last Saturday, Up in weights against this' 'weaker opposition but must be strongly fancied.

3 5000 ROSE OF CARLYLE (3) 54. Improved with sprint at Avondale which was fust race since January. Might need another before reaching best but entitled to respect all the same.

B. York 4 00 INKY'S GOLD (5) 53.5. Redoubtable mudlark making first appearance since August. First-up win would be surprising.

5 7400 STEVIE WONDER (6) 53. Good winter handicap galloper having first run since November. Has sprinted well when fresh.

D. Southworth 6 0095 JANCY PALLAN (13) 53. Disappointing this season. 7 0000 WILDFIRE (9) 52.5. Reached good form last winter, Gave some cheek before fading to eleventh over 1200 m, Avondale, and likely to last longer this time.

8 0687 CARDSHARP (14) 52. Has ability but does not often produce best these days.

W. Hokai 9 8090 HUNTER'S GOLD (15) 52. Sprang surprise when winning Cambridge Breeders’ Stakes last spring. Should have improved further with

race over 1200 m at Avondale. 10 SARONG (4) 51.5. Promising earlier but this will be first race for 12 months. Likely to run boldly although 1200 m would have suited better. D. Peake 11 5108 BALLYMILES (10) 51. Has been freshened since running over 1400 m Te Aroha, March 22, Will get 4.5 kg allowance and could be prominent. J. Clarke 12 1106 MAORI BOY (2) SI. Consistent last year and likely to have got better with age. Without race since October so might need this one. B. York 13—0098 BAR ALL (1) 50.5. Might have freshened since weakening to eighth over 1600 m at Ellerslie. Speedy but hai not been running on well enough, though firmer footing might help. G. Cooksley 14 8000 HAGEN'S HERO (19) Class five horse and badly drawn. Little chance. 15 7808 JACOBA (11) 50.5. Unable to win in C 4-5 classes. Hardly like in this. 16 8009 LE P REN EUR (8) 50.5. Has not raced since November and another who looks a bit out of her depth. N. Tiley 17 5007 LITTLE ECHO (17) 50.5. Class four horse which | should find those further up a handful. 18 4106 OSTENTO (12) 50.5. Beti ter qualified than most lightweights. Has been freshened since running sixth, over 1600 m at Awapunl and could show up. T. Williams 19 0000 TAMASHENILLE (10) 50.5. Form poor since lucky win at Tauranga last spring.
