Goldie set sells for $1300
PA Masterton A Masterton-produced and marketed set of books based on the life and work of the New Zealand artist, J. F. Goldie, fetched $l3OO at auction in Wellington, representing a 260 per cent rise in value in two yean. The set, consisting of two limited edition books, “Goldie: His Life and Paintings,” and “Goldie: Prints, Drawings and Criticisms,” retailed at $495 when first released in 1978 by the Masterton distributor, Hedleys bookshop. Both volumns were published by Alister Taylor, of Martingborough. The two books auctioned together in Wellington were the first to be resold in New Zealand. About' 100 of the complete Goldie sets went to Wairarapa buyers. The remaining 1400 copies were sold in New Zealand, Australia, Britain, North America, and Hong Kong.
