Heard the Newz?
The Newz, the resident group at the Aranui Motor Hotel, sets out on its sec* ond North Island tour next Monday. The Christchurch band will be away for five weeks, playing at Wellington, Auckland, and Hamilton.
The Newz plays four nights in Wellington, including two shows at a new nightspot called Billy the Club, and three shows at the Last Resort From May 21, the band will be in . Auckland, and according to the lead vocalist, . Simon Darke, it will be playing at the Windsor Castle, the Gluepot Tavern, Kicks nightclub, the Esplanade, and Mainstreet, before completing a week at the Hillcrest Tavern in Hamilton. Meanwhile, the saga about the debut album by the Newz continues. The release of the record, entitled "Heard The Newz,” was meant to coincide with the North Island tour, but Simon Darke said that the band
was not happy with the final "mix down” because it seemed to have “that New Zealand sound.” A second re-mix was carried out by the producer, Eric Johns, and the Newz were., pleased with the result .“Heard the Newz” is to be released -on June 22; a .< date which Simon Darke /'■ described as “A-l, absolute, and definite,” because the group had. been talking about earlier release dates for some time. . A pre-release party is being planned to launch the album, he said. • The single .release from, the album is going to be “Accident Prone,” backed by "Scones,” which Darke said was based On an old Bad'Company song “Feel Like Making Love.” The departing, shot from the - Newz is a private “wine and sleaze” evening when it plays with the Comics this Sunday.
Rocky Lox, a Dunedin band, play at the Aranui next week, and the Christchurch rock group, the Comcis, takes over until the Newz returns.
