Parks reform welcomed
The government’s propsals to reform the administrative structure of national park boards have been welcomed by the Tourism Advisory Council. The chairman of the council (Mr R. W. Baird) said that extending the scope of national parks to include reserves of national and international importance within wider land districts should improve the system greatly. He anticipated a streamlining of procedures and economies in administration. With wider responsibilities, he. said, the new Parks Board. ..could take an -over-all viey< of regional requirements’- and provide the;.- - ',*;proposed National' Parks Authority and the Government’. with 'more practical,.and better advice. The council would like to see a fuller representation of general user and tourist interests on the Authority. It proposed that the prescription for appointments be enlarged to include these interests.
