Designer of Q.E. II dies
Mr Bill Lovell-Smith, the consulting engineer who designed Queen ElizabethII Park, died at his home in Sumner yesterday. He was 56. Mr Lovell-Smith, of the j surveying, engineering, and planning firm of Davie, Lovell-Smith and Partners, was bom in Christchurch and was educated at Christchurch Boys’ High School. He studied at the Engineering School of the University of Canterbury. His : best known project was Queen Elizabeth II Park, a complex that won the praise of competitors and officials | during the
Commonwealth Games in ■ 1974. and at subsequent in- ■ ternational competitions staged at the park. His ■ ability in designing sporting complexes- -won j his .firm the contract to redesign the Basin Reserve in Wellington which will be completed later this • year. It will feature the most modern grandstand in . New Zealand. The funeral service will be held at All Saints’ Anglican Church, Wakefield Avenue. Sumner, tomorrow, at 10.30 a.m. Mr Lovell-Smith will be buried in the Ruru Lawn Cemetery. Bromley. ■ ■ , ■
