Doctorate for Mr Taiboys

PA Palmerston North The Massey University Council has approved the award of an honorary doctorate of science to the Deputy Prime Minister (Mr Taiboys). The council had planned to confer the. degree at a graduation ceremony today. But since Mr Taiboys is now in Belgrade, representing New Zealand at the funeral of President Tito, he will not be able to accept his doctorate until later. A press release by the university said, “Honorary doctorates are awarded by universities in recognition of outstanding achievement, and Massey University in conferring the degree on Mr Taiboys acknowledges his distinguished service in government, particularly in the portfolios of Education and Agriculture, and more recently in Foreign Affairs and Overseas Trade.”
