New All Black lock fully fit

Canterbury’s new All Black lock, Graeme Higginson, has no worries at present about injuries. It was reported yesterday that Higginson had missed the Canterbury .Sub-unions’-trip to Nelson because of a knee injury. Speaking yesterday from his Culverden home, Higginson said that he had suffered a knock to a knee in a club game two weeks ago, but it was nothing serious. It had not affected his performance at the All Black trial last Saturday. Work was the reason why he had missed the trip north with the Country team. “If I am. going to be away with the All Blacks for the next two months I think I should get as much work done as I can before I go,” said Higginson, who helps his father-in-law, Nelson Dalzell, a for-

mer All Black, on his Culverden farm. Higginson said that he would be playing club rugby on Saturday and hia locking partner in the Culverden scrum will be Jock Ross, the former Mid-Canterbury player who shifted north recently. Ross was to have played his first game for Culverden last Saturday, but he was a late addition, as a reserve, to the All Black .trial in Hamilton. Culverden will, therefore, boast two nationally-ranked locks when it meets United on Saturday. The team will, no doubt, want to make the most of this strength as it endeavours to push aside the memories of the 46-3 thrashing it suffered at the hands of the powerful Kaiapoi side last Saturday. This was Culverden’s first loss of the season.
