Last Chance firmed in favour for the Lantana Lodge Ladies’ Mile at Addington Raceway tomorrow with, an easy win at the Addington trials yesterday. Last Chance ’ trailed Wickliffe and came through along the rails inside the final 150 m, drawing out to win under a hold by three lengths and a half after taking 3min 27.35ec for. the 2600 m. She paced her final 800 m in Imin o.4sec, with the final 400 m in 29.65ec. Last Chance finished fifth to Sly Belle at Addington last Saturday after, leading for the final 1300 m. She looks improved as a result of that race and should be prominent tomorrow. Port View paced a sound race to finish second, a short length in front of Wickliffe, which began safely for Derek Jones and was prominent throughout. He was not fully extended at the end.
Sovereign, which will probably race next at Washdyke, battled on for a fair fmrth, ahead of Royal Yankee, D’Or Favori, which looks ready for a big run in
the first leg at' Addington tomorrow, and Aramis. Melton Monarch showed ability to shade Patsy Marie in the first heat for two-year-olds, recording 2min 43.45ec for the 2000 m. The last 800 m took Imin o.6sec, with the final 400 m in a dashing 28.4 sec. Patsy Marie led for most of . the way, showing that her gallop at the start of her race last Saturday was only a temporary lapse. She will be a big chance in the final of the Sires’ Produce Stakes tomorrow. El Regale was not pushed to finish third, ahead of Tdshack and No Excuse; Golden Prince, a rival, of Patsy Marie tomoriow, showed dash to win the. other heat in the sjnart; time of 2min 41sec, the last 800 m in Imin 2.6 sec, with the last 400 m in 30.8 sec. Golden Prince looks well and could surprise tomorrow. Tact Over shaped pleasingly, when finishing second, with Benjie Tara making ground . steadily over the final 300 m for third, followed by Mirari and Revelry. About Now, which is to travel to Auckland for racing on Saturday, won the event for fast-class trotters. She marred her display by breaking after 300 m. How-,
ever, she settled quickly and trotted solidly from then on. She had two lengths to spare over the pacemaker, Santoza, with Coastalong next, ahead of Gay Black. About Now, which is to be driven by Kevin Townley at Alexandra Park, looks in great heart; and should pay expenses on the trip. - Forest Wind, Norice Wave, Game One,- Little Abbe*. Senator Lea, Repus Star, Looking Glass, True Tuapeka, Galloway, Daring Doo and Gikama Dee were amon .’ the more impressive slow-class performers. All look likely? to race well in the-next few weeks.
