Q.E. II pool
Sir, — I strongly object to the Christchurch City Council’s cash register attitude to Q.E. II pool. The citizens of Christchurch did not support the erection of this facility only to be denied its use for a quarter of the year. I am one of those who" does use the pool during the winter and during that same period every year give swimming instruction to members of my scout troop. The real problem is not poor patronage. The pool building is over-heated at obviously high cost, and there is inadequate promotion. Few people realise that swimming is available in pleasant conditions (in fact too warm) during the winter and that group discounts can be arranged. The council should try to be more positive in its approach and do something constructive for a change instead of talking about how unpolitical they are. and should look beyond their accounting books when deciding policy. — Yours, etc D. J. O’ROURKE. May 7, 1980.
