Holiday for tug
An excursion by members < of the Royal Forest and Bird I Protection Society at the i week-end was the last voyage for the season for the ; retired tug Lyttelton. She I has been, sailing every weekend since Christmas on ex- s cursions run by the Tug Lyttelton Preservation ; Society. The tug carried £bout 3000 i passengers on her sailings ' during the summer, using . about 128 tonnes of coal to i provide steam power. She 1 will be put in dry dock for <
annual survey, and should be back in service again by next spring. '. ■>'; A spokesman for the society said ,that' enough funds had been earned from the sailings to. pay for the survey. . Highlights of the summer sailings were the first visit by the tug to Little Akaloa and the escorting of the windjammer Spirit of Adventure. Visitors from many countries joined New Zealanders on the week-end excursions. .
