Tanks, guns for M.E.
NZPA-Reuter Port Huneme Military equipment including tanks and amphibious assault vehicles capable of supporting- a 12,000-man marine force is being prepared for shipment to the Middle East, according to a Marine Corps spokesman. The build-up of weaponry, termed a preparedness move that was not a specific response to the recent' bid to rescue American hostages in Iran, does not include troops. Such heavy equipment as tanks, assault vehicles, troop trucks, jeeps and three 8-inch self-propelled howitzers were among the material to be loaded on to ships, beginning on May 15, he said. The seven ships carrying the gear would sail to the east coast of the United 'States, where they would take on more supplies at the naval port at Sunny' Point, North Carolina. Port Huneme is 80km north-west of Los Angeles.
