Emergency supplies for Fiji.
Food worth nearly $12,000 is being rushed to help mothers and young children in cyclone-ravaged areas of Fiji by the New Zealand Save the Children Fund. The president of the fund (Mrs V. Foster) said about 45,000 people lived in the badly hit area from Korovou to Navau. Of these, more than 5000 were expectant or nursing mothers and young children. Food being grown or stored had been lost and the fund would send soup, milk biscuits, multi-vitamins and skim milk immediately. This was in addition to half a tonne of milk biscuits already on order for the stricken area. The emergency maintenance feeding project would be monitored by Save the Children staff on the spot and distributed through Fiji Government rural health clinics, Mrs Foster said. •
