PA Auckland Cedric Albert James, who had been accused of murdering a fellow inmate at Paremoremo Prison, was last evening found not guilty by a jury in the High Court at Auckland. The jury, of nine men and three women, took five hours to reach its verdict. Mr Justice Thorp discharged James, who is serving a sentence for aggravated robbery. James, who was represented by Dr A. M. Finlay, Q.C., had pleaded not guilty to murdering Keith Ross Hall, who was serving a life sentence for the rape and murder of a 10-year-old girl.
