Cashfields Restaurant — good food, family prices

The restaurant which is incorporated in the Cashfields complex is expected to cater not only for Cashfields shoppers but for the whole city centre. The restaurant is large, even by city standards, being capable of seating more than 200 people. The atmosphere, however, is elegant and comfortable with none of the barn-like feeling that many larger eating-houses suffer from. Mr Eddie Schmidt, the restaurant’s proprietor, is no stranger to the Christchurch catering scene. As the owner of the Aorangi Cake Kitchen in Wairakei Road . he supplied bakery

goods to many local retailers. In addition, Mr Schmidt managed the restaurant in Millers for many years until its closure last year.

The Cashfields restaurant specialises in good food and fast sendee at a reasonable price. The menu is extensive and features a different roast every day, a fish dish, a chicken dish, salades and a selection .of hot entree-type meals such as curry, spaghetti Bolognaise, or steak and kidney pie.

As the resturant settles into a pattern of business Mr Schmidt has plans to include “surprise dishes”

on the menu. These will give him the opportunity to be a little more creative in the kitchen, making traditional national dishes and other culinary delights.

Mr Peter Gerber, a Swiss chef who has been working in Queenstown will help Mr Schmidt in the kitchen and is expected to put his own touch to the menu.

Prices will be kept to a reasonable level — meals will cost up to $4 and half-portions of many dishes are available for

children and those with a smaller appetite. As well as full dinners, the restaurant serves a wide selection of sandwiches cakes and savouries all made on the premises, for morning and afternoon teas and light lunches.

The Cashfields restaurant is situated on the second floor, next to Millers, and is open from 9.30 each week-day. Lunch is served from 11.45 to 2 p.m. and Friday night dinner will be available from 4.45 until 7.15.
