Bexley tip
Sir, — The reply by the Town Clerk to S. H. Smith’s letter about the Bexley tip gives, in part, misleading information. Recycling and composting, when carried out by the Christchurch and Auckland City Ccuncils respectively, are more expensive than land filling but a different type of recycling and a much better method of composting could be carried out at Bexley tip at a reduced cost to the council. Written and verbal approaches to the chairman of the resource recovery subcommittee have still not brought a full investigation into my proven methods and ideas which have also shown such non-financial benefits as a great reduction of smells, flies, rodents, fires and space needed. As all matter which can rot is recyclable then by far the greater part of the rubbish stream can be reused in one form or another. Is the
council going to check these possibilities or continue to dodge them? — Yours, etc., PETER BROWN. May 1, 1980.
