Sludge-disposal plan for tip

Bexley residents should be| told about proposals to use part of the rubbish tip for sludge disposal and cattle grazing before anything, was approved, said the Christchurch : Drainage Board’s, construction and treatmentworks committee yesterday. Board members said the' proposal could add to the controversy about Christchurch City Council plans to dump rubbish again south of Pages Road. Sludge disposal would be done in generally the same area.

Mr R. A. Bamford said Bexley residents had spoken loudly “and I think rightly so.” Mr A. S. Cockburn said the board should be certain that there would be no health risk or danger to

children from disposal and farming. Mr C. H. Russell said the land would be better for nearby residents if it was grassed and ■■.. controlled. Sludge was already spread elsewhere near a residential area without anv trouble. The filled rubbish-tip • land would be tidier after the job had been done. ‘ J Mr Bamford said. “We may be moving .<i f r- bit too fast. Let. usi':’.
