Man on 54 charges

A storeman who faces a total of 54 charges — 48 of them for alleged conversion of cars — was remanded in custody to April 30 when he appeared before Judge Pain in the District Court yesterday.

He is Gavin Franklin Stuckey, who did not plead. Stuckey faces 48 charges of converting-cars — the total value of which was more than $146,000; five of theft involving property amounting to $3200; and with wilfully destroying a public telephone box. The damage was estimated at $773.

The alleged offences were said to have occurred between April, last year, and early this month. Mark Sydney McAllister, aged 17, a moulder, who pleaded to five charges of converting vehicles and one charge of wilfully destroying a public telephone box was convicted and remanded to April 30 for a probation report and sentence.

A manager who faces four charges laid under ’ the Indecent Publications Act was remanded on bail without plea to May 22. It is alleged that in January David Terence O’Connell, aged 23, had in his possession for sale: 13 packs of playing. cards, 11 assorted Bmm films, 30 books, and 152 books, having reason to believe , all were indecent.

The reason for the long remand, said Sergeant R. H. Prouting, was because some of the material was going to the Indecent Publications Tribunal for a ruling. . DEPOSITIONS

A manager charged with stealing cash and cheques, to a total value of $4175, was remanded to July 1 for the taking of depositions. The alleged offence took place betwen March 29 -and 30 and the money was said

Mahon) the Judge granted continued interim suppression of his name. ■ DRUG OFFENCE j Keith Alister Nicolson, aged 36, a part-time teacher, Who admitted a charge of supplying LSD to an . undercover constable, was committed to the High Court for sentence. ■’ Nicolson, who committed the offence on March 21, endorsed his plea of guilty. DEPOSITIONS An unemployed man and a housewife jointly charged with attempting to obstruct the course of justice were remanded on bail to May 9 for the taking of depositions. They are Albert Kaye, aged 41, and Christine SueAnn Dowie, aged 19. It is alleged that the pair attempted to obstruct the course of justice by washing the clothes of Warren John Corkin and Raymond Bremner Fryer. Corkin and Fryer face a joint charge of murdering George Frankly Carrodus, an Addington hairdresser, in late February. THEFT ALLEGED A man, who is alleged to have stolen motor-vehicle parts and accessories from his employers, was remanded on bail without plea to April 30.
