N-plant closed
A nuclear reprocessing plant near the French Ch""-, nel port of Cherburg has been closed for an inucfiiuve period for checks and repairs following a fire in a transformer. The plant manager, Maurice Delange, said the decision was taken because of a minor accident with no radioactive consequences. The fire, caused by a short circuit, cut the power supply to the La Hague plant site and neutralised the ventilation system. The cooling system for containers holding fisnable material did ;not stop working because it ‘was supplied with an emergency generator, Mr Delange said.—Cherbourg.
