Swedish firm locks up TV film

NZPA-Reuter Stockholm A Swedish company has bought the local rights to the controversial Britishmade television film, “Death of a Princess,” to prevent it being shown and possibly harming Swedish exports to the Middle East, the firm ha.s announced. Scand-Video Company outbid Swedish television channels for the Swedish rights at a buyer’s meeting in Cannes. The film deals with the execution of a Saudi Arabian princess and her lover. Its showing in Britain and the Netherlands angered the Se.udi Government and has bought threats of economic reprisals. “We have been impressed by the debate on fears about the showing harming Swedish business interests. Our move is an investment in the future,” Scand-Video’s managing director, Gunnar Hedin said. His company h?.d no intention of showing the film. Sam Nilsson, programming director of Swedish Television Channel 1, which was trying to buy the film, said this meant that what Swedes could see and hot see was controlled by outside economic interests.
