Prohibition theme of new film

“Fight the Good FigC A 50-minute documentary: On the.modern prohibition movement in New. Zealand, has been sold by the independent Wellingtonbased company' Reel Images, to Television New Zealand.

It is the story of people who are often called “Wowsers” and fanatics, during a year when they staged a temperance revival. New Zealand is the only country in the world to put- prohibition to a regular national vote. The temperance movement was heartened bv the results of the 1978 liquor poll (23 per cent) and set about reintroducing old-style temperance rallies, criticising the drinking habits of members of Parliament. They have achieved considerable impact. Reel Images is now researching and preparing another 50-minute film about the export of deer antler velvet to Asia. For thousands of years, oriental herbalists have considered velvet the elixir of life and as having aphrodisiac powers, as well as curing everything front dandruff to fallen arches.
