Many enter for art award
More than 230. entries for the 1980 Benson and Hedges Art Award will be unwrapped at the Canterbury Society of Arts Gallery this week. The winner of the $3500 award will be announced on Monday evening. Twentyfive of the best entries will ■ be exhibited it the gallery I until May 10. The winning naintings will ■ be selected by Dr Eric.West;brook, who is director for j the Ministry of Arts in Victoria, Australia. 1 The public will be able to
vote for the outstanding ; painting in the exhibition apart from the winner. A ■ supplementary award of , $5OO, which will be announced in December' or i January, will bj given to the i chosen painter. The exhibition will be opened by the Minister for ' the Arts (Mr Highet) at 8 p.m. on Monday. After the exhibition finish- ■ es in Christchurch it will ■ visit • Invercargill and Dunedin as part of a tour of New Zealand which will end in i Auckland in December.
