Petrocorp plant first on ‘fast track’
PA Wellington The Petroleum Corporation will apply soon to the Minister of National Development (Mr Birch) for approval to use the fast-track provisions of the National Development Act. .
It will be the first attempt to use. the provisions of the act since it was passed last year. The Petrocorp board decided at the week-end to apply’ for the special provisions to build its $l3O million methanol plant in Taranaki, a corporation official said yesterday.
The decision was taken in consultation with Petrocorp’s methanol partner, Alberta Gas. Chemical, Ltd. Mr Birch and the Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon) have both said several times that the methanol plant should be built as quickly as possible.
