More fruit exported
PA Nelson More than a million cartons of fruit have been exported through the port of Nelson this season so far. The wharfinger, Mr R. R. Walker, told a Nelson Harbour Board meeting that this was about 50,000 more than at the corresponding time last season.
The season fruit export rush had again led to labour shortages on the waterfront, said a board member, Mr A. K. Gellatly. Local watersiders had been reinforced by 14 men from Picton, 15 from Auckland, arid 18 from Wellington.
