The Region includes 30 territorial units comprised of cities, boroughs and counties serving a population of 800,000 in a developed multi-cultural, multi-racial environment. The Planning Division has a central role in ensuring that ths best use is made of available regional resources by clarifying the choices available and aiding in the management of change. The Director of Planning leads a multi-disciplinary team of professionals in ensuring that regional, local and transportation planning proceeds in accord with the relevant' statutes and the Authority’s guidelines. The Regional Planning Scheme is at an advanced stage of its first major review. Activity is extending into new fields including health, energy, recreation and maritime planning. Planning support is provided to other Divisions within the ARA.
