Citizens’ Association policy
Sir, ; — I note that Mr C. L. Sugden, the chairman of the Citizens Association, is still claiming that his members are free to vote independently from all political control and are not subject to direction in any way. Are the Citizens candidates not bound to support the policy they collectively put forward in the last election? Can the voters of Christchurch now be advised that the pretty words on the funny pamphlets are meaningless? Surely “freedom from political control” simply means in this context, freedom from political accountability. — Yours, etc B. A. OOMS. April 21, 1980.
