Pensioners’ pot plants stolen

Thieves carried off all the! pot plants and hanging baskets owned by the elderly residents of the Glenora Foundation’s pensioner cottages in Abberley Crescent, St Albans, on Wednesday night. “It was a pretty despicable thing to do. Some of the residents are in their 80s, and the plants really meant a lot to them,” said a spokesman for the .foundation yesterday. He said that one elderly woman was in hospital at present, and other residents had tended her plants. Plants and baskets were

outside all 14 units in the block. There was not much money involved, but the old people were upset, the spokesman said. Christchurch detectives are investigating the theft of about $2300 worth of property from an Avdnside Drive house while the occupants were away. The owner’s daughter reported the burglary, which is believed to have occurred on Tuesday night. The haul included three Goldie prints in gilt frames, an antique Maori war club,, a gold and platinum wedding ring, two fox furs, and a quantity of clothing.
