Councillor out of election race

Cr P. W. Anderson, a Labour Party member of the Christchurch City Council for nine years, will not stand for any local-body office this, year. Cr Anderson withdrew from the Labour Party’s nominations for candidates for the Pegasus Ward. His name had gone forward for selection, but he has now said that he will not stand, for personal reasons. His withdrawal meant that the four remaining nominations were confirmed at a meeting last evening as the party’s candidates. They are Cr Vicki Buck, Cr David Close, Mrs Kathy Lowe, and Cr Nola Massey.

Cr Anderson has also been a member of .the Drainage Board for 12 years. He is a registered nurse, and has been chairman of the council’s community services committee for two years. He was chairman of the health and general committee in 1973.

He is also a member of the Canterbury Museum Trust Board. He said that .he expected to. continue living in Christchurch.

The only non-councillor among the candidates is Mrs Kathy Lowe, a volunteer worker and wife of the chairman of the' Labour Party’s Canterbury regional council.
