Coo’s Boy should atone in main Methven event

By

G. K. YULE

Coo’s Boy will have to show very little improvement on his fourth placing at Addington Raceway on Tuesday to come out on top in the J. McCloy Memorial Handicap at Methven tomorrow.

■ The . six-year-old son of Regal Yankee has had five wins since joining Jack Smolenski’s team late in December and he looks capable of further promotion. . On Tuesday he was a little slow and later suffered a bad check near the 1600 m. In'the circumstances he did remarkably well to finish fourth behind the talented Hands Down. Coo’s Boy is at home on grass tracks and this field does not look to be too strong.

Ascot Fair deserves a wins ning run. He was unlucky when third to Hands Down and Benrodden on Tuesday as he did not get clear until the race was virtually over. He would not have beaten the winner, but he should have been second. In his present form he must be a leading contender. Dainty Judy has. fashioned a fine record over 3200 m on grass and she must be in the group of leading prospects. She made ground late for seventh on Tuesday and will

probably be better suited by the Methven course, which should enable her to use her great staying powers to best advantage. ■ The three-year-old, Regal Guy, is a sound chance. He was beaten by Ryal Pont at Gore last week and before that he chased Armalight and Ryal Pont home at Addington. He is one of the better horses in his age group and could be more than a match for most in this event Logan Lea, Benrodden,

Sail Again, which won this event last year, and Lord Septemus appeal most of the remainder. Okere, Inflation and Cousteau form a likely trio in the second leg, the Allan Smith Memorial Handicap, a race which has drawn an unwieldy field with little depth of class. Royal Scotch, Catherine of Aragon, Koau Bret, and Gerry Delta should be other sound chances.
