Big F. Ford field

Although the accent will be on saloons at the meeting on Sunday, some good single-seater racing should be seen in the South Island Formula Ford races. About 10 drivers are expected to take part in their quick little Fords, which are often the step-ping-stone to the bigger Formula Pacific single-ennf-ave Jeff Pascoe, erf Blenheim, will be very hard to beat on Sunday in his

Swift LMI, as he has proved a fine competitor in the New Zealand series this season. In five starts in the national championship in the car Pascoe had two wins, a second a third and a fourth, impressive indeed. Pascoe’s Swift was designed and built in Christchurch. The South Island series is run to provde competition for those drivers who cannot get to the North Island for national

races. At present Ross Noble leads the series in a Begg, but he will come under fire on Sunday from Russ Noble (Van Dieman RF73), as well as Pasctfe. Other contenders are Kevin Hill (Hustler SJ3), Keith Laney (Titan 6A), Geoff Murray (Johnston), Garth Austin (Johnston), Andrew Mitchell (Cuda), Wilson Crosbie (Crossle), Don Elvy (Hustler) and John Armstrong (Swift LM2)’. Formula Fords are powered. by mildly modified Ford SOHC motors and because of their fine handling often lap Ruapuna faster than some of the big saloons.
