Contribution ‘biggest’
PA Wellington New Zealand’s contribution to the Save the Children Fun in London this year was the biggest single amount presented to the fund in its 61-year history.
This news was cabled" to the New Zealand president of the fund (Mrs W. D. Foster) this week. “For the first time, we jsent London a cheque for over a million dollars — $1,092,174 to be exact. This was their share of our diamond jubilee year fund-rais-i ing effort,” Mrs. Foster said. . The New Zealand branch' of the fund, a voluntary or-1 ganisation, raised $1;247,616i in 12 months to February, 1980. “In addition to the London l remittance. $59,640 was! spent in New Zealand for 1 ' Polynesian and Maori child-; ren, and more than $46,000 I purchased milk powder for 'shipment direct to ten dif-l ferent countries.” Mrs Foster said.
