Use of bottles
Sir — Your correspondent, Helen Crabb (April 15) makes a valid criticism of the 1.25 litre Coca-Cola bottle. They are wasteful of resources and energy. Far worse than the waste is the danger of broken glass on beaches and recreation areas that result from irresponsible people leaving nodeposit bottles. Every year children suffer permanent disabilities as a result of this. Legislation ; exists _ in some states of the United States to require deposits on bottles. The public should press for this and ensure that they boycott no-deposit bottles where possible. — Yours, etc., DON ROWLANDS. April 15, 1980.
