Journalists backed
/The Canterbury Council .for Civil Liberties has deplored .the Prime Minister’s decision to ban reporters of the •"dominion” newspaper from his news conferences.
gjhe chairman (Dr K. P. (Clements) said that the action posed a “very real threat” , to-the free New Zealand press and demdcratic New Zealand. ’<Dr Clements said that the
council supported the journalists’ proposed boycott of Mr Muldoon’s news conferences. If Mr Muldoon could get away with deciding which members of the Press gallery he would or would not talk to, New Zealand would be well on the way to having Government — controlled news.
